The $25 Project – July 2011

Not too long ago I found out someone close to me had been having financial difficulties and had been seeking assistance from a local food pantry. He is no longer in need of assistance, but finding out this information caused me extreme sadness, mainly because I knew the kind of person he was and how hard it must have been for him to ask and receive help. This person had worked his entire life and had always helped others but through a series of bad financial decisions found himself in a position where he could no longer afford food for himself. I am very thankful that his local food pantry was able to help him, so in honor of him and the type of person he was, I’ve decided that each month I will make a donation to a local food pantry

For now I’m starting out with $25. Since I follow a bazillion coupon sites, frugal bloggers, and deal sites, I’m going to see how far I can make that $25 stretch over the course of a month. Any rebates, Register Rewards (Walgreens) or Extra Care Bucks (CVS) will be used to make even more purchases. At the end of each month, I’ll post a picture of my haul and periodically throughout the month I’ll update the list of deals that I was able to take advantage of.

I’m really excited to get started. I can’t wait to see what deals I can find but most of all, this experience has made me very grateful for the beautiful life I have. I have truly received the gift of gratitude, understanding and compassion. Before this experience, my arrogance allowed me to see certain events only in black and white. I lived by the motto, “everyone must suffer the consequences of their actions”. Now I truly understand how good people can make really bad choices and how in every situation there are always shades of gray.
